Cowry (Cowrie) Shells-How to use them

Cowry shells, a popular item for hemp jewelry. It seems to me that they are awkward to work with when using with hemp jewelry.

The only way I have found to use them is to put craft (or even crazy glue) on the knot bearer cord and on the back of the cowrie shell to hold it in place.

You can also just thread your cord threw the split at the top of the shell, to make a hanging pendant sort of speak. I have one hemp necklace that I used that way.

I hope that helps answer any questions. Good Luck and happy hemping!!

    kristy,
you know those little metal rings that you use to put charms on a charm bracelet? well if you buy a bunch of those and then get the cowrie shells with the backs cut out you can put the ring through the small end in the split so you have a cowrie shell charm then thread it on one of the out side cords so you have like a cowrie shell charm on your neckless. me and my friend have been using charms and doing that. i just wanted to post that ’cause i know that people are looking for ways to use cowrie shells.

You can also take one cord in sting it through the top of the slit and then take a second cord and string it through the bottom of the slit. This allows the shells to lay length ways instead of a dangling pendent. If my camara wasn’t broke I would send in pictures for you, but at this time I am unable to.
