Half Hitch Knot

Here is my attempt at showing how the half hitch knot is made. This is the first step in learning how to make the “zig zag” looking knot.

This hemp knot is actually pretty easy. I have a pic here with numbers by the steps in order in which you tie the knot.

The natural colored hemp is your knot bearer. The read one is which you will tie the knot.

Step one: Take the read hemp and go OVER the natural hemp.

Step two: Form kinda a loop with the read hemp and then go UNDER the natural hemp.

Step three: Place the red hemp OVER the start of the loop before pulling it tight to tie. Here is another picture showing the hemp almost tied.

Last step is to pull the knot tight. That is it!! Simple simple simple. (Unless my directions aren’t very good lol)

Now to tie a Double Half Hitch knot, you will just repeat the process that you just did with the same knotting cord.

    Hi Sydney!

I understand what you are saying here. You do not need all those cords.

Unless you are trying to get a look other than the “corkscrew” look, which is what the half hitch knot does, then you only need one knotting cord.

Just like the red cord in my picture, you only need one knotting cord. You can use the 2 bearer cords, just do the knot around both of them.

Does this help? Make you more confused? Let me know!

Thanks so much for visiting and asking your questions!

    Phil,

Yes, you are right, you should use 2 or more cords to tie the knot around. But for the example, I just used one to make it more easy to see how the knot is made.

    Hello!
I am just wondering, is the half hitch knot the hemp knot I could use in someone’s hair?
If not, do you have any suggestions? I appreciate any suggestions, and thank you for this amazing website!

    Kaitlin,

I am not sure what big knots you are referring to. You can try to google big hemp knots and see if that will bring up anything. and use the image search, maybe that will help.
